Thoughts on Gratitude

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow."

– Melody Beattie

I stumbled upon this quote a while ago and it has stuck with me ever since. These words ring true for me and help remind me that happiness and fulfillment lies in a mindset. Gratitude for what I do have is the key to freedom. The freedom from greed or restlessness or vanity or discontentment. That endless chase for "more" will only result in being worn out and even more frustrated than before. I can so easily focus on what I do not have. Whether that be material things or personal characteristics or talents or relationships... The list can go on (can you tell this is not my strength?). Even when those things that I do have fail to meet my ever-reaching standards, a shift in attitude can make all the difference.

Gratitude changes an unfortunate circumstance into a learning opportunity.

Gratitude changes imperfect into beautifully unique.

Gratitude changes a stressful day into an exciting and thrilling experience.

Gratitude changes a mundane moment into a relaxing and refreshing one.

Worry turns into trust, less turns into enough, longing turns into contentment.

How does gratitude change things in your life?
